Alexa Barreiros

Senior Editor-in-Chief

This is Alexa’s fourth year writing for The Lighthouse, and is serving as editor-in-chief with Katrina Hauser. Alexa enjoys dancing and is part of the volleyball team. She is also the treasurer for the Future Business Leaders of America. Her goal is to help the students in the journalism program create great content and write to their greatest potential.

This is Katrina’s second year on The Lighthouse staff. She has gone from staff writer to editor-in-chief, a position she shares with Alexa Barreiros. She is a member of the band, National Honor Society and Peer Group Connection. Katrina loves the journalism program and is looking forward to a successful and exciting year, along with enhancing the overall publication

Gianna Glover

Senior Managing Editor

This is Gianna’s third year in the journalism program.  Gianna is excited to take on the role of managing editor with Victoria Niedbal. She is captain of the fall varsity cheerleading team and is a member of an all-star team outside of school. Gianna participates in many school clubs in addition to the National Honor Society, Peer Group Connection and World Language Honor Society. After graduation, Gianna hopes to study communications and media in college.

Senior Managing Editor

This is Victoria’s third year on The Lighthouse staff. She is now serving as managing editor along with Gianna Glover. Victoria is a Peer Group leader, president of FBLA, public relations director of her class and school and captain of the cross country team. Her goal for this year is to expand The Lighthouse’s presence on all social media platforms and add on to the success of the publication.

Junior Webmaster

This is Alex’s second year in the program. Alex plays soccer, runs track and participates in cheerleading and coaching outside of LHS. Through the webmaster position, whom she shares with Lea Torppey, Alex hopes to positively impact the future of The Lighthouse program. Her goals are to enhance the publication’s online presence while continuing to write articles.

This is Lea’s fourth and final year with The Lighthouse. She enjoys acting in plays and musicals and being involved in the Animal Welfare Club, Athletic Training Club, band, chorale, Environmental Club, Mock Trial Club, National Honor Society and Peer Group Connection. She also has an interest in photography and filmmaking. Lea is excited to take on her new role as webmaster with Alex Shapiro.

Joe Arino-Sandomenico

Editor (Senior)

This is Joe’s second year writing for The Lighthouse, and he has achieved his goal of becoming an editor this year. He enjoys having long conversations about life with his friends and analyzing professional football and basketball plays. Joe aspires to be a coach or general manager in the NBA or NFL in the foreseeable future. He hopes to add more personality to his writing.

Angelena Barcia

Editor (Senior)

This is Angelena’s third year in the journalism program. She is thrilled to be serving as an editor and photographer. Angelena would like to pursue a career in journalism because she likes writing. Angelena is part of the musical, and enjoys music, photography, traveling and meeting new people. She is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and Italian Club.

Alyssa Ferrara

Editor (Senior)

This is Alyssa’s third year in journalism.  She has a passion for dance and traveling. She hopes to further her photography skills and strengthen her writing skills. Alyssa participates in many clubs and is the community service vice president of FBLA. She is a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership alumna, and visited Ireland to take part in the Albert Schweitzer Leadership for Life Program.

Senior Editor

This is Alexa’s second year in the journalism program. She is now the senior editor, and her hobbies include taking photos, hanging out with friends and family and listening to music. Her favorite musical artists of all time are Brockhampton, Frank Ocean, The 1975 and Tyler the Creator. Her goals are to strengthen her opinion writing skills and attend Emerson College as a journalism major.

Editor (Senior)

This is Alexa’s third year in the journalism program. She enjoys writing, competitive swimming and hanging out with friends. Her goals for this year are to continue improving her writing skills, gain more journalistic experience and mentor her classmates.

Editor (Junior)

This is Alexa’s second year in the journalism program. She plays basketball in the winter and varsity softball in the spring. Alexa also plays travel softball on her club team throughout the year. She enjoys writing for The Lighthouse and hopes to stay in journalism through her senior year.

Emma Ferschwieler

Editor (Junior)

This is Emma’s second year on The Lighthouse staff. She has loved being in the journalism program and intends to continue participating through her senior year. She is part of the swim team and is co-captain of the color guard. Baking and reading long books are some of her favorite pastimes.

Maya Malizia

Editor (Junior)

This is Maya’s second year in journalism, and she now serves as an editor for The Lighthouse. She is on the varsity cheer team and the Lyndhurst competition cheer team.  She hopes to continue journalism throughout high school, and improve her writing skills.

Robert Bloom

Senior Staff Writer

This is Robert’s third year in the journalism program. For the past two years, he has authored a side-by-side sports column for The Lighthouse. Robert is the starting catcher on the varsity baseball team and enjoys watching the Philadelphia 76ers. This year in journalism, he plans on writing the best articles he possibly can about all kinds of sports.

Senior Staff Writer

This is Kevin’s second year in the journalism program as a staff writer. He loves to watch movies and write stories. He is treasurer of the Book Club, class secretary, a member of the World Language Honor Society and a Peer Group leader. His main goals this year are to improve his writing skills and author articles that are fun and entertaining for readers.

Melanie Fallas

Senior Staff Writer

This is Melanie’s first year in the journalism program. She is part of the Italian Club, National Honor Society and World Language Honor Society. Melanie enjoys watching Netflix as well as spending time with family and friends. She hopes to maintain her work ethic and have a smooth senior year filled with fun.

This is Jenna’s first year in journalism. However, her artwork has appeared in past issues of the publication. She is thrilled to have officially joined the program. Jenna loves theater and participates in both LHS’ plays and musicals. She is a member of the band, chorale and FBLA. When Jenna is older, she wants to spread more positivity.

Brandon Ross

Senior Staff Writer

This is Brandon’s first year in the journalism program. He is on the varsity football team and enjoys watching the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loves writing and talking about sports. When he goes off to college, Brandon plans on majoring in sports journalism or sports broadcasting.

This is Gianna’s first year in the journalism program. A member of the varsity basketball and softball teams, Gianna enjoys writing about sports. She hopes to stay in the journalism program through her senior year, and improve her writing skills.

This is Angelina’s first year in the journalism program, and she hopes to remain in the program next year. She is a member of the softball team and is looking forward to her involvement in the Athletic Training Club and Future Business Leaders of America. Her goal is to become a better overall writer and write good articles for the program.

Anthony DeMarco

This is Anthony’s third year as part of The Lighthouse staff. He is on the varsity football, wrestling and baseball teams. He hopes to stay in the journalism program through his senior year. Anthony enjoys watching sports but mainly football. His goal is to make The Lighthouse a better publication by improving his writing and entertaining every single reader.

This is Emily’s first year in the journalism program. She is secretary for the junior class and vice president for the student body. She is on the varsity cross country and varsity swim teams. She is also a member of the Art Club, Athletic Training Club, Environmental Club and Future Business Leaders of America.

This is Julia’s first year in the journalism program. She enjoys playing softball and spending time with friends. Currently, she is enrolled in Advanced Placement Language and Composition and hopes to have a successful school year. She hopes to improve her writing skills this school year.

Ghita Kdiry

This is Ghita’s first year on The Lighthouse staff. She enjoys participating in academic activities such as the Montclair State University Camp for the Gifted and Talented, NJIT’s Financial Literacy Camp and Rutgers Pre-Medical Honors program. Ghita hopes to gain new experiences through the journalism program.

This is Jake’s first year in the journalism program. Jake looks forward to contributing to The Lighthouse through his sports reporting. Jake is a three-sport athlete who is on LHS’ soccer, ice hockey and outdoor track and field teams. He is looking forward to improve his writing skills through the journalism program.

This is Rafaella’s first year in journalism. She is a member of the varsity track team and volleyball team. She hopes to stay in journalism until she graduates high school. Her goal is to study nursing in college and eventually become a nurse.

This is Andrew’s second year in the journalism program. He is very interested in becoming a professional journalist. His goals for this year are to achieve high honors all school year, continue drawing for The Lighthouse and improve his writing to create more interesting and informative articles.

This is Anthony’s first year writing for The Lighthouse. He enjoys playing and watching sports, especially baseball. He is a member of LHS’ junior varsity baseball team. This year in journalism, Anthony’s goal is to write good articles covering sports.

This is Sumaia’s first year in the journalism program. Sumaia’s goal is to become a better writer and reporter as the year goes on and hopefully become an editor next school year. As an adult, Sumaia aspires to travel the world and learn about a variety of cultures.

This is Adam’s first year in the journalism program. He decided to join the program because of how interested he was in the newspapers that were coming out. Adam is a three-sport varsity athlete who plays football, basketball and baseball. He enjoys reading and writing about sports.

This is Bassem’s first year taking journalism. He enjoys working with anything involving computers whether he knows about the topic or not. Bassem’s goal is to do his best in journalism class this year and leave a mark on the school. He intends to work as a game designer one day.

This is Joseph’s first year writing for The Lighthouse. Joseph enjoys hiking, running, drawing and listening to music. He is part of the junior varsity boys soccer team and is a hurdler for LHS’ indoor and outdoor track teams. He hopes to do excellent work and become a great writer for The Lighthouse.

This is Valentina’s first year in the journalism program. She enjoys painting while listening to music as well as playing on the volleyball team. Her goal is to continue the journalism program until she finishes high school. She hopes to improve her writing quality and technique throughout the year.

This is Caila’s first year in the journalism program. She enjoys dancing and is on the volleyball team. She aspires to have a career in fashion design and hopes to remain in the journalism program through her senior year. Her goal is to also improve her writing technique.

This is Kevin’s first year on The Lighthouse staff. He has lived in Lyndhurst for six years and previously attended Sacred Heart School. He is interested in lacrosse and is a fan of football, and especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. His goal is to be an editor for next year’s publication.

This is Angela’s first year in journalism. She was a dancer for 12 years and now runs cross countryIn Angela’s free time, she likes to draw, hang out with friends, watch Netflix and spend time with her dogs. She intends to remain a part of the journalism program for all four years of high school.

This is Carolyne’s first year in journalism. She has been playing softball for about eight years. This year, she plays volleyball on the freshman team. Carolyne enjoys playing sports and enjoys writing just as much. She is very excited to start a new beginning at LHS and to grow as a writer.

This is Kara’s first year in the journalism program. She cheers for the varsity cheer team at LHS and also cheers on a competitive team outside of Lyndhurst. Kara enjoys hanging out with her family and friends. Her goal for this year is to improve her writing skills.

This is Litzy’s first year in the journalism program. She likes to exercise and hang out with friends. She is excited to see what the journalism class has to offer. Litzy is hoping that this program will help her improve her writing and speech.

This is Christopher’s first year on The Lighthouse staff. He likes to play basketball and lacrosse. He is enrolled in English I-Honors and plans on learning how to edit pictures and videos for The Lighthouse. He also enjoys watching the Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets.

This is Madison’s first year writing for The Lighthouse. Madison loves dancing and joined the LHS color guard team this year. She hopes to continue improving her writing and interviewing skills throughout her four years of high school.

This is Dean’s first year in journalism, and he looks forward to working with The Lighthouse staff. Dean is part of the school band as well as the marching band and hopes to become part of LHS’ baseball team. In his spare time, he likes listening to music and hanging out with his friends.
