Irish soda bread: A Saint Patrick’s Day classic

Nothing beats the comforting and familiar smell of Irish soda bread. This Saint Patrick’s Day, celebrate with a mouth-watering treat that will keep you wanting more.

Ingredients:

4 cups of flour

4 tablespoons of sugar

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1 teaspoon of salt

4 tablespoons of butter (½ stick of butter)

1 ½ cups of buttermilk

1 egg

½ teaspoon of orange zest

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Combine flour, sugar and baking soda, and mix thoroughly. Feel free to add butter for extra richness.
  3. Lightly beat buttermilk, egg and orange zest together on low speed.
  4. Put dough on a floured baking sheet and kneed it.
  5. Place dough in a medium-sized baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until bronzed.
  7. After you take the Irish soda bread out of the oven, let it cool on a baking rack.
  8. Serve bread at room temperature.
