Located on Ridge Road is newly opened G.O.A.T. Coffeehouse, which welcomes caffeine lovers far and wide.

Although it is not yet popular among LHS students, this quaint café, which opened in late November, is definitely worth a visit. Just a short walk away from the high school, it is an ideal lunch destination and a great place to hang out with friends on weekends.

When I first walked in, I was immediately overcome by the smell of freshly brewed coffee and impressed by G.O.A.T.’s laid back and welcoming vibe. The hipster decor is spot on, and there are both armchairs for those wishing to relax and small tables for people wanted to get some work done.

Unlike chain coffee shops, G.O.A.T. Coffeehouse was relatively quiet and not at all crowded. I didn’t have to wait on line when ordering at the counter, and I enjoyed the mellow music playing in the background. The employees were very friendly, and they seemed both hard-working and approachable.

Now onto the most crucial part: the drinks. I had a craving for one of their blueberry smoothies while a friend got the caramel latte. The drinks were not only tasty but looked terrific. My smoothie had just enough sweetness, and I could tell all the ingredients were fresh. Next time I go, I’d love to try the other flavors they offer, which are strawberry/banana or peanut butter/banana.

The caramel latte looked amazing with a signature latte swirl. When I tried it, I could taste the caramel and enjoyed the silky cream texture. The temperature was perfect, as it was neither cold nor burning hot.

When I visited G.O.A.T., I was also able to take delight in pastries including the everything bagel, canelé, croissant, financier and scone. Every item was fresh, and the diverse collection included plenty of options to suit cravings for both sweet and salty. The canelé was a particular favorite of mine because it has a gooey inside filled with custard that is an exceptional afternoon treat.

Another popular afternoon snack is the chocolate financier, which has a pleasant crumbly cake likeness. While the outside is crispy, the inside is soft and presents a nice contrast in textures. It’s also big enough to split among a couple of friends. All these items were obviously freshly baked, and I really appreciate G.O.A.T.’s commitment to selling not only great coffee but also excellent food.

There are so many details in this café that give it personality. There are books available for reading, and customers can add to the collection by donating their own books. For those interested in getting some work done, there is a counter where you can find people using their laptops and getting some work done. Even dogs are welcome, and they can enjoy sipping from a water bowl as their owners indulge in a cappuccino.

I would not expect this kind of coffee shop to pop up in Lyndhurst, but I’m glad it did. My only complaint is the limited hours (closed on Mondays and never open past 6 p.m.), but this is pretty typical of local coffeehouses. Hopefully, if G.O.A.T. gains popularity, its hours will expand, and residents of Lyndhurst can frequent this great hangout during the morning, afternoon and evening. I most definitely would recommend G.O.A.T. Coffeehouse, and I am so glad to have such an inviting café in my hometown.
