Did you ruin your brand new pants at lunch? You are probably upset because you have to walk around with dirty pants all day, but no worries. You can now stop at the brand new school store. The Cave, a long-awaited student-run store located across from Room 144, has been open since Feb. 13.

The Cave carries the essentials that students need, which include snacks, pencils, spirit wear, hand sanitizer and drawstring backpacks. Mrs. Weckstein, who teaches Principles of Marketing, has also set up a suggestion box inside the store so patrons who come in can leave new product ideas to add to the store.

Weckstein said the idea for The Cave came after she and Principal Ms. Vuono discussed the idea years ago, and now with help of Weckstein’s marketing class, their vision has become a reality.

She said the school storewhich is open Mondays through Thursdaysis a great way for her marketing class to apply concepts about running a successful business.

“The best part about this store is it is a great place for students to come get some school necessities and great retail practice for the kids running the store,” Weckstein said.

She said the most difficult part about running The Cave is getting the purchase orders in and keeping supplies moving out of the store quickly.

“I am very proud of how good the store looks and how all the students came together to think of all of the ideas for this store,” Weckstein said.

Senior Marisa Matarazzo is one of 19 students involved in running The Cave. She said in the beginning of the year when Weckstein told the class about the opening of the school store, she was very excited.

“My favorite thing about this store is that it’s student-run. It’s a place where we can put all of our school necessities,” Matarazzo said.

She said her favorite item in the store is the spirit wear.

“I really like our spirit wear. It’s a great way for students to get their favorite clothes they might have missed when they were originally being sold,” Matarazzo said.

Another student who is involved with The Cave is senior Derin Stitzer.

“My favorite thing about the store is all of the cool items we sell and how cheap everything is,” Stitzer said.

He said he is very proud of the store but believes it needs a new cash register.

“The one we have is older, but it gets the job done. Otherwise, the store is just about perfect,” Stitzer said.

In the upcoming weeks, Weckstein said students can expect improvements including Hershey bars, new t-shirt designs, longer hours and Friday access.
