On Tuesday, Feb. 4, President Donald Trump delivered the annual State of the Union address, making it his third State of the Union address while in office.
Trump’s address has received mixed feedback. Some say it was the best they have seen in a long time, while others described it as “over-the-top,” “extra” and “hard to follow.”
Yes, Trump was defiant and boastful, but he took on the right tone considering the fact that he was reflecting on what he has been able to accomplish during his presidency.
He reflected on the fact that the economy grew 2.3 percent in 2019. There were also 2.1 million jobs added, which was a 1.4 percent increase from 2018. The biggest win for the economy is that monthly unemployment is at a 50-year low of 3.5 percent.
Trump’s administration has been firm on its intention of boosting the economy and lowering unemployment, so these figures show that Trump has delivered on his campaign promises.
Trump’s main goal in his 2016 campaign was to crack down on illegal immigration. In 2018, officials removed 337,000 illegal immigrants from the country, and this number doubled in 2019, according to whitehouse.gov, which highlighted key points in Trump’s address.
In his address, Trump also honored heroes and families, which was heartwarming to see.
One family that Trump recognized was the Jones family, specifically Jody and Rocky Jones. Jody’s brother, Rocky was killed by an illegal alien in California. This person had been arrested for previous violent crimes and had been deported twice.
Jody was in attendance at the State of the Union address. Obviously, he was emotional, but Trump insisted that there would be justice for his brother. This is a perfect example of why California’s sanctuary state policy needs to change.
Rush Limbaugh, a conservative radio show host, was awarded the Medal of Freedom, which was an amazing act by Trump. Limbaugh was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019 and was honored for his contributions to the nation.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was visibly unhappy throughout the address. Throughout Trump’s speech, Pelosi was seen making faces and did not clap with everyone else in order to show her dissatisfaction.
However, the most disrespectful thing Pelosi did was rip up her copy of Trump’s speech at the end of his address. Pelosi’s actions that night reflected poorly on her and the Democratic Party.
Despite the complaints by critics and naysayers, Trump’s State of the Union address conveyed the good job he is doing as president. Powerful and confident, Trump showed his true character during his speech.
This State of the Union not only proved that Trump has followed up on his campaign promises but also showed that he has done some good for the country, which can only improve his chances of being re-elected.
