The Netflix original television series “Bridgerton” is based on a set of novels written during the regency era in England. The Regency is a period ruled by elegance and etiquette. The series came out on Dec. 25 and focuses on the eight siblings of the Bridgerton family.

The show accurately portrays the period in which it is set. I was captivated by the elegant costumes. I thought the scenery used throughout the show was beautiful.

The plot is dramatic and mixed with love. Women are debutants in this century and are forced to marry. Most men in the town are attracted to Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, who is a beautiful young woman.

The eligible bachelors focus their attention on Daphne and give none to the other debutants. Daphne has a beautiful complexion with amazing hairstyles.

Conflict arises with the arrival of the beautiful and mysterious distant cousin of the Featherington family, Marina Thompson, played by Ruby Barker. At the first ball, Marina charms many men while Daphne bumps into Simon, the Duke of Hastings. When the two meet, they have a hatred for each other.

Bridgerton is a very slow-burning series but keeps viewers hooked.

Daphne’s older brother, Anthony, seems to be scaring off all the potential bachelors and pairing her with horrible matches. She soon finds out that Simon is highly disinterested in marriage, just like herself. The two form a plan to pretend to be courting. However, as the show progresses, Daphne and Simon go from enemies to lovers. Bridgerton is a very slow-burning series but keeps viewers hooked.

The ultimate resolution of the series occurs when Daphne and Simon fall in love. This slowly develops over time and may leave many viewers anxiously waiting for it to come. It seems earlier episodes drag on for a while, but later episodes become rushed.

Many controversies add complex elements to the already well-made show. “Bridgerton” has created a plot for each character’s role allowing for more drama to start. The social machinations are narrated and instigated by the scandal-sheet writer Lady Whistledown, voiced by Julie Andrews. Her true identity becomes a “Gossip Girl”-like mystery.

Lady Whistledown is the mysterious scribe of a salacious newsletter somehow uncovering the juicy details of courting season. Although no one knows who Whistledown is, the author’s words become gospel.

The best part about binge-watching the show is seeing how the story wraps up. In the end, the mysteries are solved and the perfect fairy-tale ending is portrayed.
