Fifteen members of LHS’ Future Business Leaders of America got a unique opportunity on Nov. 15 when they visited the American Dream in East Rutherford for Entrepreneurship Day. As FBLA’s secretary, I was eager to attend this field trip, and I was not disappointed.
Upon arriving at American Dream, which is the second largest retail and entertainment complex in the United States, our group was greeted by tour guides who gave us some background information about their careers, which included their college majors and previous work experience.
During this time, we also met an instructor working with the American Dream K-9 unit. The K-9 unit is designed to serve and protect everyone at the mall using dogs specializing in security. The dog our group met was incredibly friendly and well-behaved, and we even got to pet her.
My favorite part of the day was visiting the TiLT Museum, which showcases 3D paintings that visitors are encouraged to photograph and interact with. This museum is like nothing I had ever seen before, and I appreciate the museum’s goal of making art come to life.
After that, we began our tour. Our first stop was the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park where we learned about the brainstorming and construction that went into making this indoor family entertainment venue a reality. We then made our way to the DreamWorks Water Park, which is the largest water park in North America and houses a 142-foot indoor water slide.

When one thinks of a mall, generally shopping and entertainment come to mind, but Entrepreneurship Day made me realize all of the logistics, marketing, advertising and security operations that go into running a successful retail and entertainment complex.
This day made me more interested in pursuing business as a career because it offered FBLA members a chance to learn, see and experience what it takes to be successful in this field.
I hope LHS’ FBLA continues to participate in American Dream’s Entrepreneurship Days because, regardless of what a student plans to study in the future, it was a memorable and enjoyable experience.
