The indoor track and field team kicked off its season on Dec. 17 at the Ramapo Outdoor Series held at Ramapo High School.

Junior Steven Friedman, who joined the team as a freshman, said the highlights of the Ramapo Outdoor Series were being able to race, seeing his teammates succeed and having fun despite the challenging conditions.

“This meet was very hard and painful for multiple reasons, the main ones being that it was the first meet of the season and that it was very cold and windy,” Friedman said.

He also said the meet was lengthy, lasting about six hours.

Friedman said his goal for this season is to improve as much as he can.

Aside from practicing and staying fit, Friedman said he focuses on being a good teammate and supporting the other athletes.

He said that, so far, the best aspect of this season has been the experience of running with his friends.

“Every member on the team always has each other’s backs, and we all strive to have fun and help each other get better,” Friedman said.

Senior runner Alan Carrino, who has also been on the team since his freshman year, said he is glad this season has been relatively unaffected by Covid-19.

He said his expectations for the rest of the season are to improve upon his own performance and help his teammates do the same.

“Every member on the team always has each other’s backs, and we all strive to have fun and help each other get better.

“[I strive] to always give my best performance, which, in turn, helps my teammates do the same and to always support the team as a whole,” Carrino said.

He said because of his teammates’ talent, his prediction for this season is that they will set many personal records.

Friedman said he and his teammates share a bond like that of a family.

“We are always supportive of each other no matter the outcome of the meet,” said Carrino.
