With Covid-19 restrictions lifted and spring in full swing, juniors are eagerly awaiting prom.

The highly anticipated event will take place from 6:30-11 p.m. on April 28 at The Legacy Castle in Pompton Plains. Permission slips were sent out via email and posted on Google Classroom on March 9, and tickets were on sale for $165 from March 14-25.

The theme for this year’s prom is “Alice in Wonderland,” and the color scheme will be black and white. The prom is open to all LHS juniors, and they can invite a sophomore, junior or senior from LHS or another high school to accompany them. LHS graduates who are no older than 19 may also attend as guests.

English teacher Ms. Coppola, who advises the Class of 2023 and is overseeing the prom, said there are many plans in store to make the evening special.

“The [Prom] Committee selected the menu already. I think all the food sounds delicious,” Coppola said. “The desserts and sundae bar will probably be a big hit.”

Coppola said the advice she gives students when it comes to preparing for prom is to stay calm and enjoy the experience.

“The most rewarding aspect is seeing the students have a great time dancing and spending time with their friends,” Coppola said.

Junior Nick Kaden said he is excited to attend his prom because the experience comes along once in a lifetime.

“I’m looking forward to seeing my friends and having a great time on the dance floor with everyone,” Kaden said.

He said he is glad the event will be happening soon since Covid-19 cases are currently low. He is also relieved that students will not be subject to any Covid-19-related restrictions.

“I [am] comfortable without the mask enforcement because I feel like it would be a better experience,” Kaden said.

Junior Marangelly Peña, who is part of the 20-member Prom Committee, said she was not sure if she wanted to attend prom because she did not know it was going to be a big deal, but now she is excited and recommends that her peers attend.

“The most rewarding aspect is seeing the students have a great time dancing and spending time with their friends.”

“It is a great moment to make many memories with your friends,” Peña said.

While Peña feels positively about prom, she said dress shopping was a challenge.

“You can never find what you’re looking for, and it can be very stressful,” Peña said.

Having found her dress at Camille La Vie in Elizabeth, Peña said she is looking forward to prom and expects to enjoy the weeks leading up to it.

Junior Olivia Norcia, who is also part of the Prom Committee, said the aspects of prom she is most eager about are dressing up nicely, hanging out with friends and seeing her classmates having a great time. She said she decided to join the Prom Committee because she likes to take charge when it comes to preparing for events.

“We met to plan about twice a month in the beginning… to get everything situated,” Norcia said.

She said she is happy with the outcome of the Prom Committee’s efforts.

“I hope [the attendees] feel overjoyed and so happy with how it came out,” said Norcia.
