Continuing right where he left off, Rex Orange County released his fourth album titled “WHO CARES?” on March 11.
Rex Orange County is an alternative/indie musician with catchy lyrics, a range of emotions and strong vocals.
The cover art for this album is very appealing. Featuring Rex Orange County and his dogs having fun, it truly goes along with the title, “WHO CARES?,” which arose from Rex Orange County’s mentality of doing whatever makes him happy no matter what others think.
This whole project, which consists of 11 tracks and runs just under 35 minutes, is full of solo songs except for one feature by Tyler, the Creator in “OPEN A WINDOW.” In this song, Rex and Tyler convey an important message about stepping out of one’s comfort zone.
For instance, one verse consists of the lyrics: “Stuck here and I never seem to get away / But I’ll hang on / Seasons change but you don’t ever / Oh, soon as I can see your face / I’m fine I’m sure / I’m tryna find a way to get out.”
“ONE IN A MILLION” has no weaknesses, and it is one of those songs that will be seen as a classic in years to come.
This song’s beat is phenomenal, and Rex and Tyler prove to be the perfect pair. They have had success with previous projects like “Boredom” and “Foreword,” and they can now add “OPEN A WINDOW” to that list.
Another great song on the album is “ONE IN A MILLION.” This track is more relaxed than a lot of the others in this project. The beat is mellow, and the lyrics are heartfelt.
For instance, Rex sings, “My heart keeps driving me crazy / There’s nothing much I can do / I’m aware (uh) / There’s no one quite like you / You’re one of one, one in a million / woah (ooh) / One in a million (Ooh, ooh) / You’re one of one/one in a million, woah.”
“ONE IN A MILLION” has no weaknesses, and it is one of those songs that will be seen as a classic in years to come. Rex’s melodic voice makes this song one that listeners will hum no matter the circumstances.
“WHO CARES?” is amazing from start to finish. Rex Orange County truly knocked this one out of the park, and every alternative music fan should care about getting their hands on this not-to-be-missed album.
