Senior Tributes

As graduation nears, I find myself reflecting on my time at LHS and thinking about the aspects of high school I’ll miss the most.

One of these is the band. The music program in this district is amazing, and I’m proud to say that I have been involved in it since fifth grade when I began playing the trumpet. Although I struggle sometimes, I still love playing this instrument.

I will also miss being on the swim team, which I joined my freshman year. It’s been fun, and I especially loved the energy of this year’s team. Everyone was so friendly, and I appreciate the special bond we formed.

During my sophomore year, I started drawing for The Lighthouse as a contributing artist, and last year, I enrolled in the journalism elective. While it’s tempting to choose an easy elective, this class is worthwhile, and I highly recommend it to others.

Thinking about life after high school is a little intimidating, but I’m excited that I’ll be attending Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham campus and majoring in 2D animation.

Once I set my sights on a career in animation, I wanted to publish my work for others to see. Through the app Procreate and the platform of The Lighthouse website, I was able to do just that.

My art has required a lot of trial and error, but with practice, I overcame some challenges, and my skills continue to grow.

My favorite animation I made this year was of a guy staring at his computer screen. This took about 13 hours to create because of all the revisions it required. In the beginning, I couldn’t figure out how to make the computer light glow on his face while also having him slowly blink as he clicked on the mouse. I initially failed to achieve the effect I wanted, but the more I tried, the closer I got to reaching my goal.

Thinking about life after high school is a little intimidating, but I’m excited that I’ll be attending Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham campus and majoring in 2D animation. I look forward to being in a new environment, connecting with new people, going to sports games and joining extracurricular clubs.

I am counting on seeing my Snapchat memories of my senior year pop up on my phone in the future, and I’m so glad to have created such fond memories during my time at LHS.
