As students get bombarded with assignments and quarterlies, especially before the holiday break, they tend to fall out of their routines and into an unproductive state. One way of avoiding this seasonal slump is by changing your habits.
Changing habits can be as simple as not biting your nails every day or limiting the amount of time you are on your phone. These are both negative habits, so dropping them will improve your quality of life.
Having a positive mindset is another healthy habit to adopt because it will lead you to think positively about yourself and others. A negative mindset will lead you to be pessimistic and less constructive.
Social media is one of the leading causes of a bad mindset. It feeds users information that is intended to stimulate their emotions and can plant false information that can set unreal expectations. It can also affect sleep and concentration because as a person looks at their phone, they ignore the world around them and lose track of time they could have spent being more productive.
The people you surround yourself with can help you change your habits by pushing you to be the best you can be.
The people you surround yourself with can help you change your habits by pushing you to be the best you can be. However, they can also pull you down, leading you to fail when you otherwise wouldn’t. So, as you change your habits, think closely about the people you surround yourself with, and make sure they have a positive impact on your life.
An important step you should take while changing habits for the better is to say daily affirmations. Daily affirmations are phrases or statements that people repeat to themselves daily to become more positive and improve. They reduce negativity and make a person more aware of their thoughts and feelings.
Here are some daily affirmations you can try out:
- Everything happens for a reason.
- I control my destiny.
- I am brave and beautiful.
- I can overcome any challenge that comes my way.
No matter what habit you are trying to change or add to your life, it is useful to make it part of your routine.
Routines help people stay organized and prepare for the future. When you know what’s going on in your life, you can get things done earlier, use your time more constructively and strive to be and do better.
Changing a habit requires motivation and determination. You need to be strong enough to get through tasks that might be easy to give up on. To maintain motivation, you can keep a planner to organize your schedule, develop a support system and just be kind to yourself.
At the end of the day, you only have yourself, and only you will be able to determine what is right for yourself. It’s all in how you talk and treat yourself, and one positive change can transform your life.
