Sam’s Closet: My cold weather essentials

With winter approaching, it is time to break out the fuzzy socks and scarves and put away your lightweight sneakers and cut-off shirts. Here are my current favorite garments to wear in cold weather:

Beanies are a practical accessory for this time of year. When properly styled, beanies can turn any boring look into a hip outfit. I style my Vans beanie with hoodies, crewnecks and sweatpants. I like to wear my hair in braids or low-space buns to add a feminine touch.

Combat boots are in, and Uggs are out this winter. Whether you’re grabbing coffee or getting together with friends, combat boots will have you ready for any occasion. I usually pair my Doc Martens combat boots with a sweater, shorts and tights.

Leather jackets are also a must. As much as they are timeless, certain leather jacket styles take the lead each season. Right now, ‘90s minimalism and straight-leg jeans are all over the runways. I usually rock my black leather jacket with dark blue jeans and a basic black tee.

Legwarmers are making a big comeback. Not only are they stylish, but they also keep your ankles warm. If you want to achieve a cozy and cute look, legwarmers are your best friend. I like to pair them with either skinny jeans or my personal favorite, a skirt.

Turtlenecks provide warmth and look good on everyone. They can fit into multiple fashion categories, which makes them perfect for any aesthetic from classy to athleisure looks. Turtlenecks are great for layering, which means they can transition that summer dress into a winter look. A turtleneck paired with a crewneck sweater is also cute for any occasion. Throwing a blazer over a turtleneck gives it a classy, serious look.

2022 has brought with it trends that are simple and relaxed. By embracing these five winter staples, you’ll be sure to look your best all season long.
