Los Angeles Laker LeBron James made history on Feb. 7 when he scored his 38,390th point, breaking Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s all-time points record of 38,387 points.

This unforgettable moment happened late in the third quarter of the home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder when James scored his 36th point on one of his signature fadeaway shots. James finished the game with 38 points, seven rebounds and three assists, but, unfortunately, that was not enough to win the game, as the Lakers suffered a 130-133 loss.

Even more important than being a great player, James is disciplined and humble.

If you asked me a few years ago if anyone would have been able to surpass Jabbar’s record, I would have said, “Absolutely not.” However, as James kept scoring and inching closer to Jabbar’s record, I realized James was bound to make National Basketball Association history.

Even more important than being a great player, James is disciplined and humble. He knows that he would not have made the strides he had in his career if it were not for the people who are part of his daily life.

In a speech after breaking the all-time points record, James said that without the love and support he gets from his family, he wouldn’t be able to do what he does on the court. He called his wife, Savannah, the real MVP for what she’s done for him and his family.

James’ recent accomplishment intensifies the Michael Jordan vs. Lebron James GOAT debate. It gives even more reason why basketball fans should believe James is the best player to ever step foot on a basketball court. Now that James is first in all-time points, top four in assists and top ten in steals,  it is really hard for people to make an argument in Jordan’s favor.

At 38 years old, James still appears to be in top shape and exhibits the same athleticism and work ethic that has made him legendary. James is an incredible athlete, and with years left in his career, I am excited to see what else he can accomplish.
