As Sleep Awareness Week comes to a close, I reflect on my favorite hobby

I love listening to music and scrolling through social media, but above all, I love sleeping. For this reason, I am excited to be celebrating Sleep Awareness Week, which began on March 13 and is concluding tomorrow. The National Sleep Foundation recognizes this week annually because, with the start of Daylight Saving Time, it is when people face the disruption of the clock change and lose an hour of sleep.

Sleep has many benefits, which include clear thinking, good decision-making, improved mood, lowered risk of serious health problems and reduced stress. Sleeping is my favorite hobby because it is relaxing and easy. All I have to do is lie back, close my eyes and let my dreams take control.

I don’t have a set bedtime, but I like to stay asleep for as long as possible, which is usually about eight or nine hours. I also use sleep as a way to regroup, so when I have a bad day, I use sleep as a way to reset so I can wake up and start fresh again.

Sleeping is my favorite hobby because it is relaxing and easy. All I have to do is lie back, close my eyes and let my dreams take control.

On school days, I wake up at 6:50 a.m. On some days, I bounce out of bed feeling ready to conquer school, but generally, I wish I could sleep in. That is why on weekends I wake up between 9-11 a.m. The extra sleep puts me in a good mood so I can make the most of my Saturdays and Sundays.

In addition to getting a good night’s rest, I also like taking naps after school because my academics leave me feeling drained. After having a busy day succeeding and feeling accomplished, I find satisfaction in dozing off on my couch with my dog at my side.

My mom jokes around by telling me how “lazy” I am for napping. She worries that if I nap for too long, I won’t be able to sleep at night, but that has never been a problem for me. Every time I nap, my mom tries to wake me up by offering to take me shopping, but I always say no. I’d rather be napping.

It might seem “lazy” to others, but I know sleeping is time well spent because it makes me feel refreshed and tranquil. I know others can agree with me when I say sleeping brings me joy. And on that note, it’s time for me to go catch some z’s.
