Last season, the boys lacrosse team made its debut as a varsity team. Having finished the previous season with a 2-12 record, the players are looking to improve and have a successful second year.

Despite the team’s challenging start with losses in its first two games and a 2-2 record as of April 15, sophomore attacker Alex DiMase, who joined varsity last year, said he expects this season to be better than the previous one.

“Last year’s record wasn’t the greatest, but [in] the first couple weeks of practice this year, there has been much more improvement in the team,” DiMase said. “I’m excited to score more goals and get more wins.”

DiMase said one aspect of lacrosse that appeals to him is that every player has a responsibility, which makes winning games a team effort.

“You have to work as a team to find open shots,” DiMase said. “On defense, you have to work together on switching and getting the ball out of the opponents’ stick.”

“I’m excited to score more goals and get more wins.”

Senior defender Robert Thomson, who joined varsity last year, said it is helpful to have 12 returning players on the team.

“[Last year] was our first year as a varsity team and a huge jump in competition,” Thomson said. “Our stick skills have improved, our team chemistry has improved and we have more depth this year.”

Thomson said the team went into this season with a positive attitude.

“We have been practicing hard for this season, and we are all looking forward to it,” Thomson said.

Senior midfielder Matthew Schnur, who has been on varsity for two years, said the main aspect the team can improve upon is communication.

“That is something I want to do more now since I’m one of the older players,” Schnur said.

Like DiMase and Thomson, Schnur said he expects the team to perform better than last season.

“Last season was a learning experience for all of us, but this season I think we have a chance to win a lot of games,” said Schnur.
