As I reflect on my four years at LHS, I realize how unique my high school experience has been.

Starting high school by taking classes on Zoom made me feel like I had lost a year. At the time, I thought I would never enjoy high school.

However, once I made it to sophomore year and all the students returned to in-person learning, I began having a proper high school experience.

I would like to thank all my teachers at LHS for bringing positive energy to their classrooms.

I made new friends with whom I shared unforgettable memories at events including prom and the physics class field trip to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township last year.

I participated in organizations, including the Italian Club during my junior year and the Astronomy Club this year, with one of the club’s highlights being a field trip to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City in April. At the museum, our group explored the dinosaur exhibit, viewed unique gems and watched the planetarium show “World Beyond Earth.”

I am also glad to have been part of the journalism program for the past two years. I have enjoyed writing feature, news and opinion pieces for The Lighthouse in addition to attending the Garden State Scholastic Press Association’s Fall Press Day at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.

I would like to thank all my teachers at LHS for bringing positive energy to their classrooms. Although high school was difficult at times, my teachers did a good job helping me improve and understand the course material.

I specifically want to thank my statistics teacher, Mr. Carucci, who was also temporarily my Algebra I and Precalculus Honors teacher. His humor, engaging teaching style and welcoming personality made learning easy. I credit him as one of my inspirations for wanting to become an educator.

I had a lot of great experiences in high school, and I am sure I will continue to make many more great memories in college.

Although I will miss high school, I look forward to attending Montclair State University, where I will be preparing to become a high school teacher.

I plan to return to a high school setting in the future and am interested in seeing the view from the other side of the desk.
