Senior Tributes

Ciccio Infurna, deputy editor

June 11, 2024

I still remember my first day of high school, which did not take place in the classroom but at a desk in my bedroom. I spent my freshman year mainly focused on my laptop screen, which wasn’t the high school experience I expected.

When I was a sophomore and in-person learning resumed, I finally got a glimpse of what high school was meant to be. I was able to meet so many new people and take interesting classes.

Specifically, high school exposed me to graphic design.

Advanced Graphic Design, which I took my sophomore year with Mr. Petruzziello, allowed me to apply my creativity to art and design. Mr. Petruzziello, who was my teacher for three years, greatly influenced me and motivated me to become a better student.

High school also gave me a chance to explore my interest in journalism. Last year, I joined The Lighthouse as a staff writer, and it was one of the best decisions I made.

Being a part of the journalism program taught me how to be a better communicator, scholar and writer.

Last year, I was a feature, news and opinion writer, which led me to follow current events and explore my interests.

When I was a sophomore and in-person learning resumed, I finally got a glimpse of what high school was meant to be. I was able to meet so many new people and take interesting classes.

This year, I have served as the publication’s deputy editor, authoring editorials for the newspaper. Every month, I picked a timely topic, led a class discussion to understand my peers’ perspectives and wrote an article based on the information I gathered.

LHS has been such a great environment for me, as it offered me opportunities to make new friends, taught me important lessons and prepared me for the future.

My experiences in high school will definitely help me as I pursue a degree in computer science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark. I wish all my classmates success in the future, and I will always appreciate my years at LHS.
