Senior Tributes

High school isn’t easy for me to look back on. I did well overall, and I’m not unhappy with high school, but there were times that were complicated.

Freshman year was pretty important to me. Without the friends I made online right before high school started, I wouldn’t have gotten through that year.

Until then, I spent most of the COVID-19 pandemic talking to no one. Thankfully, I realized I needed to reconnect before the school year commenced.

To think that at 18 years old, I should already have a perfect grasp on what I want to do in the future is absurd.

My sophomore and senior years were relatively uneventful, but junior year was rough. I had a lot happen in a short time. Academically, I’m actually surprised I did as well as I did, considering the challenges I had to deal with.

Looking back at how I handled myself during quarantine, I’m so happy I became more social in high school. The friends I made have been incredibly supportive, and I cannot thank them enough for the experiences we shared over the years.

My teachers deserve credit as well. Mr. Tessalone, who taught me in U.S. History I Honors and Advanced Placement U.S. History, is a fantastic educator. He completely changed the way I view history. Because of his teaching style, I actually wanted to go to history class.

Italian teacher Mr. Raguseo has also been a consistently wonderful presence in my life. I have developed an interest in learning languages as a result of taking his classes for the past two years.

Next year, I will be studying biology at Bergen Community College

Right now, I don’t know what career I want to pursue, and that’s fine. I’ll figure it out.
To think that at 18 years old, I should already have a perfect grasp on what I want to do in the future is absurd. I’m sure I’ll find my way eventually. Until then, I am taking life as it is and will work it out from there.
