Reflecting on my high school experiences has allowed me to see how far I have come. As a freshman, I was overwhelmed by the opportunities at LHS, especially after beginning high school virtually.

At the start of my sophomore year, I was very reserved and did not know what to expect for the rest of my high school career.

That year, Ms. Pastor, who was my English II Honors teacher, suggested I join The Lighthouse, which she advises. I was hesitant, but due to a scheduling conflict, I signed up to take her journalism elective as a junior. It became one of my favorite classes, and for that, I thank Ms. Pastor.

Joining The Lighthouse was among the best decisions I ever made. I am proud of myself for authoring nine front-page articles and becoming a successful webmaster, photographer and writer for this distinguished publication.

As a result of my work as a student journalist, I have become detail-oriented and learned to express myself more clearly. I also learned that every voice matters, and there is always a story to tell.

My favorite memory from The Lighthouse was writing about the school musicals and plays since it is thrilling to report on the hard work my peers put into the productions. LHS is a place where conscientious and dedicated individuals thrive. Having the opportunity to share their perspectives is an experience I will never forget.

During my time at LHS, I volunteered for 12 community organizations and held leadership positions in the Book Club and Crochet Club. Additionally, I am a member of the Animal Welfare Club, Astronomy Club, band, Environmental Club, Italian Club, National Honor Society, True Crime Club, Wonder Girls Club and World Language Honor Society.

High school helps students grow and figure out the type of person they want to become. Therefore, if I could give any advice to the underclassmen, it would be to try new activities and do not be afraid to express yourself.

LHS is a place where conscientious and dedicated individuals thrive.

It is bittersweet to be leaving LHS, but I am excited to start a new chapter of my life at Seton Hall University in South Orange where I will be earning an accelerated master’s degree in occupational therapy and behavioral science. I also hope to continue pursuing scholastic journalism on the staff of Seton Hall’s student news publication, The Setonian

I value every experience I had and person I encountered at LHS, as well as the skills high school has taught me. Even though I will sail into a new adventure as a Pirate next year, I will remain a Golden Bear at heart.
