Freshman attackman James Vuono Reid, who has a decade of experience playing lacrosse, is shining on the field with 17 goals, nine assists and 26 points as of May 5.
One of five freshmen on the team, Vuono Reid said his greatest strengths are his perceptiveness and ability to score points.
“[I watch] all the players and know what to do with the ball,” Vuono Reid said. “I had five goals [against Weehawken High School] and [at the start of] this season, I had 10 points in three games, which is pretty good.”
Vuono Reid said he enjoys his teammates’ camaraderie.
“We get along well [and] have fun at practice…. If someone does something bad, [we] pick them right back up,” Vuono Reid said.
Sophomore goalie Lukas Gallo said Vuono Reid shares the ball skillfully.
“He always wants to make the extra pass,” Gallo said. “He doesn’t do anything wrong most of the time.”
Gallo said Vuono Reid’s agility is an asset to the team.
“It looks like he glitches sometimes when he dodges. He’s shifty, and he has a great shot,” Gallo said.
He said Vuono Reid demonstrates good instincts.
“He makes quick decisions, and he doesn’t really think. He plays out of muscle memory,” Gallo said.
Senior midfielder Logan Stitzer said Vuono Reid puts his full effort into every game.
“When we are down six goals, he’s still out there trying to help us out on the scoreboard,” Stitzer said. “James kind of just goes with the flow. Nothing really bothers him.”
“He makes quick decisions, and he doesn’t really think. He plays out of muscle memory.”
Stitzer said Vuono Reid is a talented player.
“He came up from youth lacrosse scoring [multiple] goals a game, and now he’s putting it [toward] the high school level,” Stitzer said.
He said he expects continued success from Vuono Reid, whose lacrosse career could continue into college.
“It’s nice to see him out there as a freshman, knowing he will excel over the next three years,” said Stitzer.
