Students often debate what time assignments should be due on Google Classroom. Undoubtedly, 11:59 p.m. emerges as the fairest and most effective deadline.
The primary advantage of an 11:59 p.m. deadline is that it ensures students get sufficient sleep. When work is due at the start of the school day, students tend to stay up late or wake up especially early to finish it.
This lack of sleep negatively affects their concentration and overall performance in class the next day, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Furthermore, an 11:59 p.m. deadline helps students avoid procrastination. When work is due at the beginning of the school day or right before class starts, students are tempted to wait until the last minute to finish their assignments.
An 11:59 p.m. deadline also prompts students to polish their work. Instead of turning in rushed assignments they complete in the morning or during the school day, they can review their work at home to make sure it reflects their best effort. An additional benefit is that it encourages students to contact teachers or tutors earlier if they have any questions.
Furthermore, an 11:59 p.m. deadline helps students avoid procrastination.
Finally, the 11:59 p.m. due date gives students with busy schedules an incentive to prioritize schoolwork and practice good time-management skills. Even students who have after-school jobs, family responsibilities like babysitting relatives or sports practices have a few hours before midnight to complete their assignments.
In the end, when teachers set 11:59 p.m. deadlines, they provide students with a realistic timeframe and a helpful constraint. This deadline creates a fair and reasonable learning environment where well-rested students can thrive in and outside the classroom.
