Those who want an exciting, fun, original and thrilling experience, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is for you. Released on Nov. 12, 2020, this lighthearted game, which can be played alone or with others, is a spin-off of the original 2008 Sackboy: Little Big Planet.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure takes place on Craftworld, a planet that was formed from creativity and dreams. The story begins in Sackboy’s home in the Village of Loom, where villainous Vex, a jester-like entity born from chaos and fear, seeks to transform the imaginative world of Craftworld into a land of nightmares.

As the plot expands and players travel, new areas and worlds are revealed. Along the journey, players have to collect dreamer orbs and save other sackfolk to counter Vex’s darkness. Ultimately, the goal is to reach him at the top of his mountain and stop his machine, the Topsy-Turver.

This cute, quirky game is enhanced by vibrant, creative 3D settings that are visually stunning, featuring colorful plants, whimsical creatures and crazy yet exciting obstacles that surround the players.
Furthermore, players travel through five worlds, each with its own theme. Players start with the winter-themed world Soaring Summit before moving through the jungle-themed world Colossal Canopy, the underwater-themed world Kingdom of Crablantis and the space-themed world Interstellar Junction before arriving at the nightmare-themed Center of Craftworld, where players must save from the villainous Vex.

Moving on to the characters, each has its own sense of style, and players can customize them however they choose. The options are so broad that players can be as creative as they want. Players can choose premade outfits, like a banana, dinosaur or character from pop culture. There is also the option to create a completely new outfit with customized accessories.
Along the journey, players have to collect dreamer orbs and save other sackfolk to counter Vex’s darkness.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure features a mix of original scores and licensed tracks, including Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough,” Foster the People’s “Houdini,” The Meters’ “Look-Ka-Py-Py” and even pop hits like Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.” These songs create a dynamic soundtrack of upbeat, recognizable tunes.

There is little dialogue in the game, but when there is, it stands out. The game first introduces a cut scene in which Vex explains his plan and terrorizes the village, cackling in a cartoonish voice. Then, when a player dies, their character makes a cute, high-pitched scream.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a hidden gem in the world of video games, but it is certainly worth investigating. Charming, joyful and quirky, it creates a feel-good, lighthearted experience perfect for families and players of all ages.
