Strikes are stacking up, and wins are following as the bowling team continues its season with a 12-6 record as of Feb. 3.
Head Coach Offitto, who is in his eighth year of coaching, said this season differs from previous years because of the team’s four new bowlers, freshmen David Calheiros, Christiano Garofalo and Alexander Pineiro, as well as sophomore Jack Quick.
“It is great to see the progress they have made since November, when we started,” Offitto said. “I’m excited to see where they can get to in the future.”
After winning the State Sectional Championships last year, Offitto said he has high hopes for the upcoming matches.
“Looking ahead to the state tournament, my expectations are to compete for a sectional title,” Offitto said. “Coming up on the [end] of the regular season, I would like to go on a bit of a winning streak and try to compete for the league championship.”
Quick, a first-year varsity member who also participates in cross country and outdoor track and field, said bowling is a unique sport.
“It is less physically but [more] mentally involved because of all the techniques required,” Quick said.
“Looking ahead to the state tournament, my expectations are to compete for a sectional title.”
Moving forward, Quick said he hopes to improve his scores.
“My arm isn’t always consistent when I throw, so I just have to keep consistent with where I’m standing and where I’m throwing [the ball],” Quick said.
Sophomore James Sinen, who is in his second year on varsity, said breaking his game series of 602 from last season and bowling two 727 series — one on Dec. 16 against Rutherford High School and the other on Jan. 5 against Secaucus High School — is something he takes pride in.
“It felt really great because I’ve just never done that before, and it was a huge improvement,” Sinen said. “Now I’m chasing the perfect game of 300.”
Sinen credits Offitto with helping him develop a steady mindset, specifically by offering him advice during a match at Bowl-A-Drome in North Arlington against Becton Regional High School on Dec. 18, 2025, when LHS won 5-2.
“Coach Offitto told me to just focus on my own game. [It] really stuck with me to always just try my hardest and not put unnecessary pressure on myself,” said Sinen.
