This feature is part of a five-part in-depth reporting series about concerts.
1. Follow artists and bands you like on social media to stay in the loop.
2. Sign up for mailing lists to get presale codes and early access to tickets.
3. Compare prices across platforms. Most of the time, tickets on the artist’s site are the most affordable option, before resellers sell them for more than face value.
4. If you just want to hear live music and are looking for cheaper tickets, consider purchasing tickets at smaller, local venues such as Crossroads in Garwood, The Meatlocker in Montclair or Williams Center in Rutherford.
5. If all else fails, you may find discounted tickets on the day of a show, since people who may have bought tickets but had to cancel at the last minute want to get a bit of money back for a ticket they did not end up using.
