The greatest lesson I have learned during high school is to seize every opportunity. From serving as band co-president to taking on a leadership role at The Lighthouse, challenging myself has led to meaningful connections, growth and new perspectives.
I did not know what to expect when entering journalism class last school year, as I only registered to fulfill my 21st Century Life and Careers graduation requirement. I mainly wrote book reviews and opinion pieces, helping me develop my voice as a writer.
Acting as deputy editor, I followed in the footsteps of my outstanding editor, Class of 2025 graduate Chiara Cardone. Leading class discussions pushed me out of my comfort zone, and writing editorials about important topics kept me motivated.
This school year, I also had the honor of mentoring freshmen Olive Bautista, Camila Bernal, Izzy Cruz, Hala Kenawy, Kenzy Mahmoud and Maddie Scherzer. They have made me proud with their hard work and strong contributions to The Lighthouse.
I could not have come this far without the encouragement of some amazing LHS teachers.
I would like to thank The Lighthouse adviser Ms. Pastor, whose care and critiquing made it possible for me to earn a second-place In-depth Reporting Award in the 2025 Garden State Scholastic Press Association Newspaper Contest.
When I am a nursing student in the Honors Program at Felician University in Rutherford, my journalism days will be behind me. However, I will always appreciate my experiences in the program.
Additionally, I would like to thank band director Mr. Chwalyk. His praise and support over the past four years have helped me become the best version of myself.
I will remember the LHS band fondly and appreciate its members for making great memories with me.

The Lighthouse was one of my most significant involvements at LHS, and I cannot wait to read future issues of the publication for years to come.
