This Sunday is Mother’s Day, which means students are preparing to show appreciation and love for their mothers with kind words and thoughtful gifts
Sophomore Tyler Casaretto said his mom is his go-to confidante who is always there for him.
“My mom and I have a great relationship because she gets me. We’re like best friends, and when we’re out, I see her as one of my friends and not as a parent or rule-setter, [so] I feel relaxed,” Caseretto said.
He said he enjoys going to the movies with his mom, which they usually do on Sundays or after school on Fridays.
“My mom makes me feel comfortable. She has comforted me through hard times when nobody was there for me and helped me at my lowest point,” Casaretto said. “She even listened to me when nobody would believe me.”
Casaretto said he communicates his appreciation to his mom daily with a hug or saying “I love you,” before going to bed.
He said for Mother’s Day, he plans to take her shopping at her favorite stores and serve her a fruit salad inside of a watermelon shell for breakfast.
Freshman Alexa Cizek said for Mother’s Day, she is thinking of giving her mom money to get her nails done so she can have a relaxing day.
Cizek said she enjoys spending time with her mom by taking a walk in Riverside Park on Saturday mornings where they walk their dog and talk.
“My mom makes me feel comfortable. She has comforted me through hard times when nobody was there for me and helped me at my lowest point.”
“Me and my mom have a good relationship because we have the same personality, and we are best friends,” Cizek said.
She and her mom also play volleyball together.
“She helps me get better, and since she used to play volleyball, she gives me tips,” Cizek said.
Cizek said she loves her mom’s cooking, especially her Alfredo pasta with garlic bread, and shows her appreciation by being there for her in good times and bad.
Freshman Sebastian Erostico said he likes helping his mom clean the house and cook with her. He said he loves everything his mom cooks.
“One of my favorite dishes she prepares is rice and beans with a side of some sort of meat and chopped-up potatoes,” Erostico said.
He said he appreciates his mom for being a constant presence in his life.
“I have a good relationship with my mother because when I was younger, I would assist her with anything,” Erostico said.
He said he appreciates how his mother supports him, tries to get the best out of him and puts forth her best effort in all situations.
“Every time I had a game or something that made me nervous or that I couldn’t do, she’d say, ‘You can do it. Put everything into it, and don’t think about it,’” Erostico said.
For Mother’s Day, Erostico said he intends to give his mom jewelry, shoes and clothes.
Sophomore Gianna Scardino said she celebrates her mom on Mother’s Day by giving her a card with a message that reflects her appreciation.
“Ever since I was little, I’ve always made her handwritten cards, and she always loves opening them on her birthday and Mother’s Day,” Scardino said.
Scardino said she especially enjoys going out to lunch with her mom and feeling free to express herself in one-on-one conversations.
“My mom helps me with any problems I face with empathy and without judgment,” said Scardino.
