Imagine walking into a house in mid-November, and you see a Christmas tree before Thanksgiving. Would that bother you?
In a survey of 52 LHS students, 25% say they put their tree up before Thanksgiving. Senior Anthony Basora is among those people whose family puts up their Christmas tree before Thanksgiving.
“It is a family tradition in my house, and my distant family loves it,” Basora said.
He said the tree does not hinder his family from fully celebrating Thanksgiving.
“I believe other people should put up their trees earlier as it gives people more time to start their Christmas shopping,” Basora said.
In contrast, senior Fernando Lucero said people should wait until after Thanksgiving to put their tree up.
”You can brainstorm ideas during November, but you have an entire month to put the tree after Thanksgiving.”
“People should enjoy holidays and not rush them,” Lucero said.
He said his family puts up their Christmas tree during the first week of December.
Lucero said he would feel odd entering a home that had a Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving.
”You can brainstorm ideas during November, but you have an entire month to put the tree after Thanksgiving. You have enough time to decorate anything after and still enjoy Thanksgiving,” Lucero said.
Like Lucero, senior Cecelia Turano said people should wait until after Thanksgiving to put their trees.
¨It puts all the attention on Christmas, and I love Christmas, but I also like to appreciate the holidays that come prior to that,” Turano said.
She said her family puts up their tree the day after Thanksgiving.
“When all of our Thanksgiving leftovers are done, we start our Christmas festivities,” said Turano.
