Fortnite fans have five days left to take advantage of the OG map. Reintroduced by Epic Games on Nov. 3, the Chapter 1 map will be accessible until Fortnite: Season OG ends on Dec. 2.
This aspect of the online video game has not been seen since the end of Season X on Oct. 13, 2019. This season takes place in between Chapters 4 and 5, and the map has been updated about once a week to include new weapons and map changes.
Fortnite OG broke records with 44.7 million players logging on to play the game. This is Fortnite’s biggest launch in its six-and-a-half-year history, according to the business magazine Fortune.
Senior Jayden Rodriguez said he enjoys the memories of playing on the old map as well as its simplicity.
“I personally value the nostalgia and weapons that they used in the original map, and I’ve always preferred them over the locations from the newer chapters,” Rodriguez said. “Chapter 1 had a lot of locations that were simpler, whereas the newer locations are a lot more futuristic, and I feel like people prefer the more simpler stuff.”
“It brought a lot of older players back, and the new players were introduced to the map we remembered and got to see what the game used to be like and why we enjoyed it so much.”
Rodriguez said once the OG Fortnite event is done, Fortnite will lose some of its popularity.
“I believe that the number of people playing will go down a good amount because people came back to relieve the old memories they had on the map,” Rodriguez said.
He said bringing back the OG map was great for entertainment purposes.
“Not only was it something for the fans to enjoy, but it is also good for marketing, and it will benefit Epic Games greatly,” Rodriguez said.
Senior Gadiel Acevedo said the return of OG Fortnite is good for both returning and new players.
“It brought a lot of older players back, and the new players were introduced to the map we remembered and got to see what the game used to be like and why we enjoyed it so much,” Acevedo said.
He said he had not played Fortnite since last year but started playing it again when Season OG was released.
“I returned because it was very nostalgic, and it was nice seeing all the old locations again,” Acevedo said.
Like Rodriguez, sophomore Rabia Porne said the OG map is the reason for Fortnite’s current success.
“The return of the OG map was very hyped up, and when they take it out, a lot of the old players will stop playing,” Porne said.
She said the OG map should be added permanently to the game because it brings a lot of enjoyment to the fans.
“If they take it out, there will be a lot of complaints, and if they leave it in, then people will be happy about it,” said Porne.
