Growing up with sisters is one of the most amazing experiences of childhood. The bond between siblings, especially sisters, often begins with shared memories that form the foundation of a lifelong relationship.
I couldn’t be more grateful that my parents have given me two sisters, who are now 4 and 7 years old. I can’t imagine my life without them.
The day my sister Rochelle was born, I was so happy, especially since I’d been wanting a sibling for years. She has always been an amazing sister because she is kind and thoughtful. Then, when my sister Abigail was born, Rochelle and I were to finally have another person to make memories with and love.
They bring so much happiness, laughter and love into my life. My sisters are among the only people that show care for me and always find a way to bring a smile to my face.
However, growing up with sisters isn’t without challenges. Like any relationship, it requires effort, patience and sacrifice. The differences in our ages and personalities sometimes lead to misunderstandings or fights. However, these moments do not take away from the joy we get in seeing each other mature and sharing activities of daily life.
My sisters and I like to spend lots of time together and share our interests. We love to do crafts, paint and spend time in our backyard playing in our playground and jumping on our trampoline.
We also love traveling. It’s always such an enjoyable experience watching each other learn about new cultures, identify new hobbies and explore new places. My sisters are both confident, fun and outgoing, and even though we aren’t alike in those ways, we always find ways to make memories and enjoy ourselves, especially when we are on vacation.

I became a sister at the age of eight. Up until then, I was pretty lonely, so the addition of my siblings to our family brought me much-needed companionship and a sense of belonging. On National Siblings Day, I reflect on this journey of growing up with sisters that has led to both learning and love.
