Students from LHS brought their talent to the middle school’s auditorium on Nov. 11 and 12 for two evening performances of “The Ash Girl” by Timberlake Wertenbaker. This darker retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairytale “Cinderella” focuses on the protagonist, Ash Girl, and the seven deadly sins that mislead her along the way.

With drama, suspense and adventure, this play revealed that finding one’s prince is far from easy but certainly worthwhile.

  • Judith (sophomore Ava Bruzzio, left) and Ruth (freshman Madison Sheppard, right) start off the show by having confrontation about their breakfast while the Gluttontoad (sophomore Faith Arroyo) looks on.
  • Judith (sophomore Ava Bruzzio) and Ruth (freshman Madison Sheppard) tease and mock Ash Girl (freshman Amelia Sanchez) in the first scene of the play.
  • Prince Amir (junior Aidan Fairchild-Sandoval) and Princess Zehra (sophomore Sadia Iqbal) have a disagreement about why the prince must be married.
  • Judith (sophomore Ava Bruzzio), Otter (sophomore Emma Bannon), Ruth (freshman Madison Sheppard), Ash girl (freshman Amelia Sanchez) and mother (junior Cecelia Valdez) (left to right) stand around and discuss the upcoming ball to which Ash Girl did not receive an invitation.
  • Sadness (senior Genevieve Pello) tries to upset Ash Girl (freshman Amelia Sanchez) by creating doubt and sorrow.
  • Otter (sophomore Emma Bannon, center) has a heartfelt conversation with the fairy (senior Sarah Rose Sammarone) and Ash Girl (freshman Amelia Sanchez) in "The Ash Girl," an LHS production that was performed at Lyndhurst Middle School on Nov. 11 and 12.
  • Ash Girl (freshman Amelia Sanchez) is excited about her transformation as she wears her new dress.
  • While snacking on some food and hiding from their mother at the party, Judith (sophomore Ava Bruzzio) and Ruth (freshman Madison Sheppard) wonder why it is so important for them to marry a prince.
  • Judith (sophomore Ava Bruzzio) believes that if the prince kisses her they must get married. Prince Amir (junior Aiden Fairchild) agrees to kiss her but only to get the shoe so he can find the girl he is looking for.
  • Ruth (freshman Madison Sheppard) argues with Ash girl (freshman Amelia Sanchez) about what she is allowed and not allowed to do. Judith (sophomore Ava Bruzzio) watches in the background.
  • The seven deadly sins and the fairy (senior Sarah Rose Sammarone) looked down upon Ash Girl (freshman Amelia Sanchez).
  • Senior Sarah Rose Sammarone and junior Cecelia Valdez (left to right) curtsy at the end of the play.
  • The fairy (senior Sarah Rose Sammarone) explains to Ash Girl (freshman Amelia Sanchez) why confidence is so important.
  • As the spiders make Ash Girl a new dress, the fairy (senior Sarah Rose Sammarone) sings " A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes."
  • Four of the deadly sins (sophomore Faith Arroyo, freshman Ryan Yamount, freshman Autumn Peduto and senior Gianna Scillia, left to right) converse about how they will make humans sin.
  • Princess Zehra (sophomore Sadia Iqbal) explains to Prince Amir (junior Aiden Fairchild-Sandoval) why he must find a suitable wife.
