- Identify your interests. By identifying your likes and dislikes, you can sign up for classes that you enjoy and will do well in.
- Strengthen your transcript. College admissions officers want to see that you’ve earned good grades in challenging courses.
- Try something new. Take a class that will introduce you to a subject or topic to which you have not yet been exposed. By challenging yourself, you will stay curious and motivated.
- Reflect on your motivation. Avoid enrolling in classes for the wrong reasons, such as your friends taking it. Instead, choose courses that align with your likes and passions.
- Meet graduation requirements. LHS requires students to take certain courses in order to graduate. Finish off these requirements as quickly as possible.
- Consider Virtual High School. LHS offers over 80 online classes. See library technician Mrs. DeForge in the media center for more information.
- Consult with your teachers and your counselor. Because they know you well, they can direct you towards classes that will be a good fit for you.
- Talk to your peers, especially upperclassmen. Ask them about the classes they have taken and which ones they recommend.
- Take courses your prospective colleges require. Some colleges or programs want to see that you have studied fine arts or taken a foreign language for a certain number of years. Check your prospective colleges’ websites to make sure you are on the right track.
- Don’t procrastinate when it comes to selecting classes. Do your research ahead of the time. That way, you won’t feel pressured by a deadline to make your decision.
