High school has been fun, and to be honest, I’m pretty sad that it’s almost over.
The pandemic obviously put a monkey wrench in my LHS experience, but I powered through it and came out a better person.
I’m glad I got to come to school for my senior year, even though I did like the more relaxed aspect of online learning. It’s been fun to see friends I haven’t seen in a while and communicate with my teachers in person.
Speaking of teachers, I’d like to thank them for helping me through these years and motivating me to be my best self. Most of them are great people who genuinely care about their roles as educators. I’d like to give a special shout-out to Mr. Carucci, who did the impossible for me by making math fun.
During the pandemic, I learned a lot of things about myself: I’m a motivated person, I like sleeping and I had taken going to school for granted. Returning to LHS has taught me to appreciate the little things in life.
Small interactions I have had in the halls have gone a long way in making me more social, especially when the only people I interacted with for the first few months of the pandemic were my parents.
Reflecting on my time at LHS, my favorite memory was in gym class right before the school closed due to Covid-19. I had to do the Pacer Test, which consists of running, and I could barely do it. I remember being winded after just five laps. Suddenly, I realized I needed to change something about myself. That moment was the catalyst for my weight loss, and because of it, I’m happier than ever.
During the pandemic, I learned a lot of things about myself: I’m a motivated person, I like sleeping and I had taken going to school for granted.
I’m excited about where I’m headed, and I can’t wait to see what life throws my way at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, where I’ll be majoring in criminal justice. Ever since I visited the campus in November, I’ve been fascinated with the school, and I can’t wait to be a student there.
High school has had a lot of ups and downs, but I find it better to focus on the ups and not let the downs get to me. This is the perspective I plan to bring with me to Rutgers.
I’ve learned a lot these past four years, and I’m excited to learn even more as I embark on my next adventure.
