I can’t even describe how proud I am of everything I have accomplished during high school.
There were challenging moments that felt slow, but in general, these four years went by very quickly. Therefore, a piece of advice I would offer to the underclassmen is to live it up. Don’t look back at high school and wish you would have joined more clubs or participated in more extracurricular activities. Not only will you learn from these involvements, but you will make some great memories.
There is so much I will miss about LHS after I graduate. One of those things is walking into school doing my signature ID flip with the security guards Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. Sarnoski. I will also miss my daily fist bumps and check-ins with Mr. Caporino, the head custodian.
And, of course, I will miss spending my free time in the practice room in the music wing, as this is where I had a quiet space to rehearse my singing and get work done. Occasionally, I would bother choir director Ms. Wise, and we would have a good laugh about something random.
In tough times, I remind myself that everything happens for a reason.
I would like to give a special shout-out to math teacher Mr. Falcicchio, English teacher Mrs. Paluzzi, Spanish teacher Mrs. Rojas and history teacher Mr. Spence. Whether it was before, during or after school, when I needed help, they were there to support me. They presented me with valuable life lessons and shared so much of their knowledge, which I will take with me as I move forward in my life.
My senior year was not easy. It definitely had its ups and downs, but in the end, it was totally worth the aggravation.
In tough times, I remind myself that everything happens for a reason. I remain guided by Biblical Proverbs 16:9, which reads: “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”
Next year, I will begin my studies in elementary education at Rider University in Lawrence Township, and although I will not be pursuing a career in journalism, I am glad I decided to join The Lighthouse this year because it taught me a lot about communication.
Conducting interviews not only helped me learn about a variety of topics, but it led me to step out of my comfort zone and talk to a wide range of people. Furthermore, as a teacher, I will be able to pass along the writing and editing skills I honed in journalism class.
I know we all roll our eyes at the cliché “Time flies,” but it really does, and no matter where life takes me, I will cherish my fond memories of LHS.
