With the third marking period at its midpoint, it is important for seniors to keep their motivation high and stay focused on their schoolwork.

Unfortunately, many seniors struggle with senioritis, which is the colloquial term for the decreased motivation students feel toward their studies at the end of high school, college or graduate school. During these times, students can experience burnout, lack of motivation and personality changes

Luckily, there are ways to overcome senioritis. One can celebrate small victories, manage stress, prioritize organization, schedule breaks and set smart goals.

As tempting as it may be to skip homework assignments or under-prepare for a test, students should recognize that earning good grades should be a priority right up to graduation day.

According to the educational services company The Princeton Review, colleges and universities are still watching their admitted students’ grades. Most colleges will request a student’s final transcript and can rescind an admissions offer or scholarship if they see a concerning decline in a student’s performance

With college and career opportunities on the horizon, senior year is an exciting time to look ahead and focus on the future.

Students can monitor their grades every day by checking the student portal, and if they see a drop in their average, they should talk to their teacher and develop a plan for improvement.

Students can ask their teachers for extra resources to strengthen their understanding or discuss methods to prepare for the next test.

Students planning to enter the workforce or military also need to maintain a solid GPA. Having a high GPA strengthens an applicant’s resume and shows employers that the applicant can set goals, stay focused, meet deadlines and practice self-discipline.

Likewise, the military wants intelligent individuals who honor their commitments and work through their challenges.

With college and career opportunities on the horizon, senior year is an exciting time to look ahead and focus on the future. However, students must also stay focused on their current academic tasks.

Over three months of school remain, so there is still a lot of material for students to learn and plenty of good grades for them to achieve.
