The Lighthouse’s Athlete of the Month is varsity wrestler junior Dylan Weaver. He started wrestling at just three years old and said, even at a young age, he knew he wanted a future in the sport.

Weaver came to LHS as a sophomore and immediately became a major asset to his team.

Wrestling at 138 pounds, Weaver finished third in the state at the 2019 New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association State Wrestling Championship. This year, he took home fourth place in the State Wrestling Championship, which was held on March 5-7 in Atlantic City, N.J.

“I’m definitely happy about the way I wrestled at the championship. Coming in, I said that I wanted to be on the podium, and I did that. I wanted to peak at the right time, and this was the right time. It was perfect timing,” Weaver said.

Although Weaver is only a junior, he has gotten many offers from various colleges for wrestling. He has committed to attending Rutgers University-New Brunswick.

“I am so glad I have the opportunity to wrestle in college. Rutgers is such a prominent, well-known school, and I know that they will give me even more options after college,” Weaver said.

Since wrestling is not yet a professional sport, Weaver said he has his sights set on competing in the Olympics after college because that is the highest achievement for a wrestler.

“I can’t wait to see what future I have in wrestling. I worked so hard to get to where I am today, and I’m happy all that work paid off,” said Weaver.
